"Alliage" is a delightful fusion of four saxophones and piano. This unique ensemble, which has already won an ECHO Klassik award, gives the illusion of a large orchestra. The melodic and expressive saxophones under the direction of Daniel Gauthier are complemented by the tonal richness of the piano, thereby creating new and highly original sonic worlds. In their programmes the musicians infuse the Romantic spirit with the sounds of today.
While everyone is familiar with the elegant and blissful Wedding March from A Midsummer Night's Dream, Mendelssohn's stage music has other fantastic pieces to offer. Weill's Threepenny Opera is full of unforgettable melodies that we can enjoy time and again. The same is true of the great tunes by George Gershwin, a composer who, like Weill, became one of Broadway's greatest stars. The musical An American in Paris, featuring such wonderful songs as "I Got Rhythm" and "I'll Build A Stairway to Paradise", was a smash hit, winning no fewer than six Oscars. This programme is as varied as the Kurt Weill Festival, and is certainly a "must" for every festival visitor!
