Outsize emotions, seductive charm, dramatic life stories and the devotion of legions of fans: Such are the necessary ingredients for the lives of our modern "goddesses": Marlene Dietrich, Édith Piaf, Judy Garland and Lotte Lenya were the icons of their age, bestowing us immortal interpretations of classic songs. In the impressive surroundings of the MDR Landesfunkhaus Saxony-Anhalt in Magdeburg, the former artists-in-residence James Holmes and Ute Gfrerer will tell us about an artistic form that is perhaps already dead: the Diva. Ute & Jim – for the Kurt Weill Festival that is something like Ella Fitzgerald and Duke Ellington for the world of jazz.
The vocal and emotional range of the evening's songs will be playful and brilliantly mastered by the amazing Ute Gfrerer. At her side will be James Holmes, the expert for Kurt Weill and his contemporaries, composers who together brought the chanson to its artistic climax. And so will encounter Pirate Jenny, Lili Marleen and sexy Lola; we will dream of a world somewhere over the rainbow, and at the end we will conclude: "Je ne regrette rien!".
A cooperation with the
MDR Landesfunkhaus Saxony-Anhalt in Magdeburg.
