7.30 p.m., Concert in the
In the Spirit of Kurt Weill
Nils Landgren – just good music
Trombone: Nils Landgren
Uni-Bigband Halle and Junior Jazz Orchestra Dessau
Against the impressive backdrop of the Deutsche Bahn workshop, "Mr. Redhorn" will perform with young musicians from Halle (Saale) and Dessau-Roßlau, thereby ensuring one of the concert highlights of the Kurt Weill Festival 2017! Enjoy a mix of jazz-funk ballads, Swedish folk songs and classic Broadway songs "In the spirit of Kurt Weill!".
In a unique collaboration, the Uni-Bigband Halle and the Junior Jazz Orchestra Dessau of the "Kurt Weill" Music School perform together for the first time, here under the capable musical direction of Nils Landgren. Listen to evergreens by Kurt Weill and his contemporaries along with Swedish folk songs, jazz and funk.
"Mr. Redhorn" Nils Landgren knows like no other how to place an audience under his spell. In his innovative programmes he breaks down the boundaries between jazz, pop and soul. In recent years this multi-talent has performed with many great names such as Eddie Harris and Herbie Hancock, Viktoria Tolstoy, Michael Wollny and Janis Siegel. Since his appointment as our artist-in-residence for 2009, Kurt Weill and, of course, the Kurt Weill Festival have remained close to his heart. The Swedish musician is also dedicated to passing on his experience to the next generation of performers. This ensures a creative give-and-take between the star musician and young ensembles, resulting in unforgettable evenings. It is a great delight for us at the Kurt Weill Festival that this premiere will take place in the Steintor-Varieté Halle, which has only recently been painstakingly restored, and is now a valued festival partner.
The audience will enjoy many surprises with Nils Landgren in such fabulous surroundings, transported back to the era of Kurt Weill when music truly swung and the musical fun only ended at sunrise.
