7.30 p.m., Concert in the MDR Landesfunkhaus
of Saxony-Anhalt in Magdeburg
improvised trips through time
Weill, Krenek & the Moderns
Anhalt Jazz Trio feat. Nils Landgren
Some people need to be surrounded by several thousand other bodies in order to feel that they are experiencing an unforgettable show; for example, at one of those huge stadium events, when top stars repeat the same programme for days on end to audiences of seventy thousand. And yet the complete opposite is pure gold: An intimate venue, with artists you can see on stage without the help of huge video screens, and whose music captivates the room, whose gentle laughter can be heard in the very last row – and who ensure that every concert is something truly unique. That's certainly the case with the MDR Landesfunkaus Saxony-Anhalt in Magdeburg. And especially when the mellow sounds of Nils Landgren, one of the best jazz trombonists, bandleaders, entertainers, singers and producers around, fill this small, exclusive and wonderful space!
Trying to tell fans of the Kurt Weill Festival about Nils Landgren is something close to an insult, seeing as he has been a treasured performer here since his residency in 2009. And he's certainly the best possible ambassador to present Kurt Weill as a great representative of classic modernism to Magdeburg audiences. Of course, you can expect popular works by Weill and Krenek in the form of hits from The Threepenny Opera and Jonny spielt auf. Moreover, the musical surprises that Nils Landgren will conjure up with his red trombone might even have astonished Kurt from Dessau.
