While their artistic home is the world of classical music, Jochen Kowalski and the members of the salon orchestra "Unter' n Linden" also share a passion for the so-called "lighter muse". Their first creative collaboration dates back to the mid-1990s. At that time, Jochen Kowalski – one of the greatest countertenors of his generation and a long-standing member of the Komische Oper Berlin – appeared in roles as diverse as Prince Orlofsky (Die Fledermaus) or the title role of Gioachino Rossini's Tancredi at the Berlin State Opera 'Unter den Linden'. When more than a decade later nine musicians from the Staatskapelle Berlin founded a salon orchestra to revive popular music from past eras, one thing was clear: they simply had to have Jochen Kowalski – at least whenever the packed diary of the internationally renowned singer allowed.
Since then, Jochen Kowalski and the Salonorchester "Unter' n Linden" have created a series of exquisite programmes that make their audiences not only laugh but also shed a tear. In their show at the Kurt Weill Festival 2018, Jochen Kowalski and the Salon Orchestra "Unter' n Linden" will present musical evergreens and rarities from the world of operetta, cabaret and 1920s cinema.
