Bauhaus has always been a place for experimental and revolutionary ideas. Over the years it has supported and encouraged many artistic forms, including ballet. In 2017 you can enjoy three forgotten jewels of the 1920s ballet repertoire. The evening's composers are contemporaries of Kurt Weill who were branded "degenerate" and shared Weill's fate of exile. Their music is bursting with energy and encompasses a kaleidoscope of musical styles and references to diverse eras.
Max Brand, whose contemporary opera Maschinist Hopkins enjoyed similar success to Weill's Threepenny Opera, created a veritable firework of jazz sounds with his dance pantomime Tragödietta. With Stefan Wolpe we look forward to the Kurt Weill Festival 2018 and the music of the so-called November Group, which formed in 1918 and whose members included László Moholy-Nagy, Otto Dix, Wassily Kandinsky, George Antheil and Kurt Weill. Tomasz Kajdanski is the ideal partner for this programme: In unconventional style he will fill the Bauhaus stage with life and let the audience feel the pulse of the Modernist movement.
